Bend it Like Jacob
Jacob started soccer lessons a few weeks ago with his friend, Lake. Daddy takes him each Saturday morning and Mommy has some quiet time at home (usually doing fun things like cleaning and laundry, boo!). This is the first time he has been in a "sport" and he's still getting used to the new kids and his coach. We definitely look forward to the weather cooling down even more (thank goodness we're out of the triple digits!) so he can enjoy more time outside both at soccer and in our backyard!

Back to School
Ugh. I can't believe it's been over a month since I've posted. To say that nothing has been going on would be a lie, but I suppose it's nothing really interesting enough to blog about. I spent the last week of July in training with my amazing team and found out that I'd be starting back the following week with full time training. I was anticipating having the first week of August to just ease back into preschool drop off, working on my classroom, etc but instead was thrown into the school year hustle and bustle early.
Jacob was promoted to Preschool II and absolutely loves his new teachers. It's a lot more challenging for him, which is great and not only is he learning so much, but he has a blast as well! After a full week of Gifted and Talented training, I started new teacher training and then the entire district went back to work on August 12th. Not only was I in training all day, every day, but I also had to unpack and get my room ready as well! We had meet the teacher night, which is called Blast Off on Wednesday, August 17th and then spent the following two days in training about the brain. It's not that it wasn't interesting and completely helpful, but there were so many things on my mental to-do list that I was getting overwhelmed!
School started on August 22nd and I have to honestly say that I have the best class that I've ever had! It's a great group of kids and parents and I'm really looking forward to this school year! I'm so excited to be back at my school, with my amazing team and amazing administration and feel so blessed!!!
Jacob is adjusting well, but I'm really working at getting out of school at a decent time so we still have our afternoon together to do fun things like playdough, play games (he is loooving the Dylan's Candy Bar Candyland game we picked up for him while in NYC in November!) and baking brownies! The long weekend has definitely been nice to have time to relax and spend together and now that the weather is cooling off (hopefully!) I hope to be able to spend more time outside!
The fall is gearing up to be busy, but I can't wait! I'll definitely try to be better about blogging, if not for others to read than just for me to "journal" what's happening in our lives!!

San Antonio
Whew! Where has the summer gone? It's hard to believe that in a few shorts weeks, I'll be back at school for the 2011-2012 school year!
This past spring my sister, Nikki, and her family moved to San Antonio after being out of state (and out of country!) for many, many years. We are absolutely thrilled that they now live within driving distance (for a few years, at least!) and plan to make the most of it! Our first trip to San Antonio took place over 4th of July weekend and it was the perfect little getaway for our family of three. The drive was a breeze (5 hours in the car is nothing compared to the 15 it took to get to Kentucky!) and we had the perfect rest stop in Waco both ways. We tried to see the bears on the Baylor campus, but it was too hot for them to be out. Luckily, the spirit shops were open and we were able to get Jacob a couple of shirts to show his pride!!
Our first full day in San Antonio was spent walking around the Riverwalk and then finding air conditioned comfort in the children's museum downtown. Nathan and I have lived in Texas for years and years now, but I don't think we'll ever get used to the hot, hot, hot summers! Yuck!!

On the morning of day two, we headed to the San Antonio Zoo and enjoyed seeing lots of animals! We didn't take very many pictures because, let's be honest- how many pictures of animals does one really need??? Since we're members at the Dallas Zoo, our admission was pretty cheap, which was wonderful since we were there for about an hour and a half. It was a great little zoo and the boys had a fun time!!!

Day three, also 4th of July, was spent indoors at the Witte Musuem. They had an exhibit about the amazonian fish (which Jacob loved) and then lots of hands on activities in their Science Tree House. We spent a lot of time doing experiments and exploring. It was the perfect way to spend the morning!!!

Unfortunately, I didn't take a lot of pictures of our "hanging out" time, I was too busy enjoying the time with my sister! We spent our afternoons at the house, the boys played outside in the sprinkler and even made a trip to the pool one afternoon. While our original plans included a trip to Sea World, we decided to skip it this trip due to the heat and the holiday weekend. Luckily, there were plenty of other fun activities to keep us busy and it's just another excuse to go back in the near future!

All in all, it was the perfect way to spend a long holiday weekend! We can't wait to go back and explore more of San Antonio and spend time with family!!!
