San Antonio

Whew! Where has the summer gone? It's hard to believe that in a few shorts weeks, I'll be back at school for the 2011-2012 school year!

This past spring my sister, Nikki, and her family moved to San Antonio after being out of state (and out of country!) for many, many years. We are absolutely thrilled that they now live within driving distance (for a few years, at least!) and plan to make the most of it! Our first trip to San Antonio took place over 4th of July weekend and it was the perfect little getaway for our family of three. The drive was a breeze (5 hours in the car is nothing compared to the 15 it took to get to Kentucky!) and we had the perfect rest stop in Waco both ways. We tried to see the bears on the Baylor campus, but it was too hot for them to be out. Luckily, the spirit shops were open and we were able to get Jacob a couple of shirts to show his pride!!

Our first full day in San Antonio was spent walking around the Riverwalk and then finding air conditioned comfort in the children's museum downtown. Nathan and I have lived in Texas for years and years now, but I don't think we'll ever get used to the hot, hot, hot summers! Yuck!!

On the morning of day two, we headed to the San Antonio Zoo and enjoyed seeing lots of animals! We didn't take very many pictures because, let's be honest- how many pictures of animals does one really need??? Since we're members at the Dallas Zoo, our admission was pretty cheap, which was wonderful since we were there for about an hour and a half. It was a great little zoo and the boys had a fun time!!!

Day three, also 4th of July, was spent indoors at the Witte Musuem. They had an exhibit about the amazonian fish (which Jacob loved) and then lots of hands on activities in their Science Tree House. We spent a lot of time doing experiments and exploring. It was the perfect way to spend the morning!!!

Unfortunately, I didn't take a lot of pictures of our "hanging out" time, I was too busy enjoying the time with my sister! We spent our afternoons at the house, the boys played outside in the sprinkler and even made a trip to the pool one afternoon. While our original plans included a trip to Sea World, we decided to skip it this trip due to the heat and the holiday weekend. Luckily, there were plenty of other fun activities to keep us busy and it's just another excuse to go back in the near future!

All in all, it was the perfect way to spend a long holiday weekend! We can't wait to go back and explore more of San Antonio and spend time with family!!!
