Happy Halloween!

We enjoyed a low key Halloween, just going around our neighborhood with our neighbors.  Jacob loved being surrounded by girls and had a blast gathering candy!  The night was perfect, with a little chill in the air and Jonah even enjoyed his wagon ride.  Both boys were exhausted and happy when we returned home and Jacob couldn't stop saying how it was the best Halloween night ever!!

Baby Yoda wasn't so sure at first...

Pumpkin Carving 2013

Well, strep throat has struck again and Jacob was home from school today and will be tomorrow as well.  We're hoping with 24 hours of antibiotics in his system he'll be okay to trick-or-treat tomorrow evening!

Luckily, strep throat hasn't totally ruined our fall fun!  After waiting patiently for many weeks, it was time to finally carve our pumpkin (affectionately named Tim).

Both boys had a blast helping out and were excited to see him all lit up!

Jonah was so excited to be in on the fun!!

Getting ready to scoop out the pumpkin guts

Excited for a new friend!

Jacob drew a picture of what he wanted Tim to look like and Nathan followed it exactly!

Happy Birthday Grandmommy

It's hard to believe it's been a little over five years since we lost Grandmommy.  Jacob was only 8 months old when she passed away and I still find myself get sad every time he does something or says something I know she would get a kick out of.  It's also hard to believe that she's never met Jonah.  I know for a fact that she would get such joy out of these two sweet boys.

Jacob has been asking about her more and more. It's extremely important to us that we keep her memory alive and keep her a part of the boys' lives.  We have a few pictures of her with baby Jacob and tell him over and over how much she loved him.  He asks about her in heaven and if she's watching over him.  I know it sounds silly, or even ridiculous, but there have been times that I've really truly believed she was here.  The boys are so lucky to have amazing grandparents, but I will always be sad for them that she's not around.

We made a special point to really talk up Grandmommy's birthday this year.  Jacob had the idea to release balloons for her in heaven.  Unfortunately, the weather and a little thing called Strep Throat had different ideas.  Next year, we'll definitely have to send balloons to Grandmommy in heaven on her birthday.

The morning Jacob was born, Grandaddy and Grandmommy came to the hospital at 6am with donuts and coffee as we all waited for him to arrive.  This was taken just a little after he came!

Fall Fun

With the boys on the mend (mostly), we were able to enjoy some fun fall activities this past week!

On Wednesday evening, we headed up to church for the annual Fall Festival.  We had so much fun playing games, getting lots of candy, visiting the petting zoo and seeing our friends!

Baby Yoga was a sleepy boy and spent most of the evening relaxing in his stroller!

Obi-Wan Kenobi striking a pose.

On Saturday evening, we braved the threat of yucky weather and headed to the club for the Halloween Spooktacular.  After a yummy dinner, the boys got to play lots of fun games and get candy.  We had a little bit of play time outside before the storm blew in then headed back indoors to enjoy the DJ.  Both boys were exhausted by the end and it was practically impossible to get a good picture of both of them!!
Happy boy enjoying dinner!

Our other happy boy enjoyed spending time with friends!

Fishing for candy

Pumpkin Bowling

By far, Jacob's favorite game!

It's tough to get a clear picture of this little guy!  He loved running around (before the storm blew in!)

Jonah's favorite "game" was digging through this big bowl of candy!

The end of the night, trying to get a good picture of these two squiggly boys!

The best of the bunch!

We have had so much fun this fall and it isn't even Halloween yet!  We are definitely looking forward to more fun events this holiday season!!

Change of Plans

This weekend we had originally planned to visit Grandaddy at the lake.  After a positive strep test on Friday afternoon, those plans changed.  Jacob spent the weekend in pjs, watching Scooby Doo and It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and we tried to keep it completely low key and restful.

One thing I knew we needed to finish up was our pumpkin for the school pumpkin decorating contest.  Students were asked to use a small pumpkin, no larger than 6 inches by 6 inches and decorate it (no carving) to resemble their favorite character from a book.  After much discussion, we chose Mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  Those are some of our favorite books, so it was fun to create our pumpkin!

Jacob loved painting our petite pumpkin with "Hazelnut Brown" acrylic paint.  It took two good coats to cover the orange completely (we painted one day after school last week) and we let it good and dry before the rest of the transformation.

The finished product!  Jacob loved helping with the ears (almost as big as the pumpkin itself!) , nose and mouth!  We just used Sharpie for the eyes, mouth and whiskers.
We can't wait to bring Mouse to the library on Tuesday morning (yay for a Monday off, at least for the boys!) and add him to the many other pumpkins students have decorated!

The Great Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast

This morning we headed to the club for the monthly themed pancake breakfast.  The kids were able to paint pumpkins to decorate and take home which was the perfect activity for this October day!  The temps dropped today and it was only in the 60s with lots of mist!  The boys had a blast, Jonah devoured the breakfast while Jake had fun painting!
