1 Week Old

Well today was the big one week birthday for Jacob. He celebrated in style. Here is a quick run down of his busy day: wake up and get changed into a clean diaper, eat, poop in said clean diaper, go to sleep, repeat. There was also an exciting trip to Target mixed in. Mom and Dad needed to get a few things, and needless to say, Jacob didn't feel like hanging out home alone and playing Dad's new Guitar Hero game, and Mom didn't think Dad would remember everything on the list (she's probably right) so Jacob got to come along. He was really good right up until it was time to leave, but then it was time to eat, and start the whole cycle over again. After we got home Jacob got some visitors. Ryan and Jenny came over to meet him, and provided Mom and Dad with a nice break for a few minutes.

Bath Time

Today we gave Jacob his first bath. He wasn't sure if he liked it or not, and by the end we think he made up his mind that he didn't.

Jacob's First Christmas

We finally got to leave the hospital on Monday, Christmas Eve. It was a very special time for us to bring Jacob home and show him around the house, and show him his room for the first time. It was very strange for us to come home and find the house exactly as we had left it in the middle of the night when we left for the hospital for him to be born. One day it was just the two of us, and then as if everything stood still, we came home as parents. Very bizarre.

That night my parents came over and we opened gifts from them and the rest of my family that couldn't make it over. It was a special time to spend with them. But I think it was mostly because they held Jacob all night and gave us a break!

This morning has been a lot of fun for us. Jacob slept really well all night, so we were able to get lots of rest for ourselves! We came downstairs and cooked some breakfast and opened our presents from each other (which neither of us had a chance to wrap!) and also what we got for Jacob. You can probably guess which gift I got for him by looking at the pictures! Today should be a nice relaxing day for us. We are going to build a fire and watch a movie at home, and then tonight most of Courtney's family is going to come over and visit. And that means more presents! It's like Christmas is going to last all week. Although, I think Jacob is going to get a lot more stuff than Courtney or I will. :)

Going Home

After spending a few long days in the hospital, we finally got to head home, on Christmas Eve. It was nice to get back to our own home and bed. There was a nice welcome home surprise from Mim and Poppa in the front yard. Once inside we gave Jacob the grand tour and showed him his room. As you can tell he was really excited about it.

Jacob is here!

After what seems like forever, we were finally able to meet Jacob today! Courtney went into labor on Friday evening, which happened to be her last day of school before the Christmas holidays. God definitely had a plan and JUST got her through the semester. She started having very strong contractions that evening around 11:00. After trying (unsuccessfully) to get a little sleep, we headed for the hospital at around 1:30 that morning. 8 hours later, Jacob was born. We feel so blessed that we were able to share this moment with several members of our family that were in town just for the weekend, and leaving on Sunday. We look forward to all of you getting the opportunity to meet Jacob soon. We are both feeling pretty tired, since neither of us got any sleep all evening during the labor. After some short naps though, we are feeling a little more energized. It has been a long day for sure, but Courtney has held up so well.

Keep checking back over the next few days/weeks as we will update this regularly. We can't wait to share our joy with everyone.
