Change of Plans

This weekend we had originally planned to visit Grandaddy at the lake.  After a positive strep test on Friday afternoon, those plans changed.  Jacob spent the weekend in pjs, watching Scooby Doo and It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and we tried to keep it completely low key and restful.

One thing I knew we needed to finish up was our pumpkin for the school pumpkin decorating contest.  Students were asked to use a small pumpkin, no larger than 6 inches by 6 inches and decorate it (no carving) to resemble their favorite character from a book.  After much discussion, we chose Mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  Those are some of our favorite books, so it was fun to create our pumpkin!

Jacob loved painting our petite pumpkin with "Hazelnut Brown" acrylic paint.  It took two good coats to cover the orange completely (we painted one day after school last week) and we let it good and dry before the rest of the transformation.

The finished product!  Jacob loved helping with the ears (almost as big as the pumpkin itself!) , nose and mouth!  We just used Sharpie for the eyes, mouth and whiskers.
We can't wait to bring Mouse to the library on Tuesday morning (yay for a Monday off, at least for the boys!) and add him to the many other pumpkins students have decorated!
