A few weeks ago, I pulled out all of our Valentine's Day books that I've collected over the years. These have become fast favorites to read throughout the day! It still amazes me that Jacob will sit and listen to these stories, since they were originally purchased to share with my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade students! I love to collect and read books relevant to the time of year, so if you're looking for some great Valentine's Day books, here are a few suggestions:
Following the same rhyme scheme of the original "Night Before Christmas", this story follows students as they prepare for the Valentine's Day party at school. When we got to the picture of the teacher in the classroom, Jacob turned to me and asked, "Mommy, is that you?". We love the sweet illustrations and cute text!
We love all of the Gilbert stories in our house! This one doesn't disappoint. Gilbert must write Valentine's poems for all the students in his class, but ends up writing not-so-nice poems for two students that haven't been kind to him in the past. Don't you just love kids books that teach a lesson? You just have to love Franklin and this little story is such a sweet one about friendship and what Valentine's day is really all about.
From the author of "If You Give a..." books, this story is very simple and the illustrations are taken from her previous books, but it's still cute and sweet! Plus...it's a board book, so it holds up to little hands.
Written and illustrated by same artist from "If You Give a..." books, this is a cute little story about a little girl named Cornelia Augusta who sets out to make Valentine's for all of her animal friends.

It's a great time of year to focus on those you love (significant others, family, children, even students!) and you just can't complain about red and pink hearts everywhere!!!
